This is one of the questions we get asked most often. There are many different reasons candles may have an incomplete burn pool (wax ring left around the edge). Below are a few of the most common reasons and fixes.

1. The initial burn was not long enough - candles have memories, and their memory starts with the initial burn. If the initial burn was not long enough to create a complete burn pool, the candle will likely never have a complete burn pool. Our candles should have an initial burn of between 3 and 4 hours. Make sure your initial burn pool is in an area above 70 degrees with minimal air flow.
2. Environmental factors - environmental factors such as ambient temperature and air movement will affect the burn pool greatly. If your candle is in a low temperature area (below 70 degrees) or in an area with air movement, the burn pool will be incomplete. Try moving your candle to an area with a higher ambient temperature and away from any air movement, including vents, windows, fans, AC units, and high-traffic areas. 
3. Untrimmed Wicks - Candles should be lit with wicks trimmed to 1/4-inch. If a wick is not trimmed before burning, it will not burn efficiently and may lead to an incomplete burn pool. Be sure to trim your wick to 1/4"-inch before each burning. Wicks can be trimmed with scissors or a wick-trimming tool.

If you do experience an incomplete burn pool that leaves a wax ring around the edge of a candle jar, it is simple to fix. Below are a few different ways to remove the wax ring and restart your candle to achieve a complete burn pool:

1. Use a hair dryer to heat up the wax ring until it has melted and pour the melted wax in a disposable container. Make sure you keep the wick at least 1/4-inch in length.
2. Trim the excess wax with a knife. Be careful not to cut yourself! You can simply dump the excess wax into the trash as long as it is cool.

There is nothing more frustrating than buying a candle with a scent you love only to get it home, light it up, and not be able to smell it! Each of our candles have been through rigorous testing to ensure both the cold (unburned) and hot (burned) throw is sufficient to fill a normal bedroom-sized room. A good rule of thumb is a single-wick candle for small to medium-sized rooms, two-wick candles for medium to large-sized rooms and three-wick candles for large to extra-large rooms. Below are the most common reasons you may not be able to smell the candle.

1. The candle is not being burned long enough to fill up the space or the space is too large. Try moving the candle to a smaller room like a bathroom and see if you can smell the scent. If the scent fills up the smaller room, the original location of the candle may be too large.
2. If you've been in the room for an extended period of time, you may become "scent blind." In other words, you've gotten used to the scent and can no longer smell it. Try leaving the room for a few minutes and reentering.
3. Each of us are more sensitive to specific smells. There may be scents you cannot smell that others are able to smell. Ask others to see if they are able to smell the candle.

Total burn time can often be influenced by environmental factors like room temperature and air flow. Our 12.5oz candles consistently burn between 60 and 70 hours.
